Ph.D. Exemption from NET

with the University Grants Commission regulations may be exempted from the
requirement of NET/SLET/SET.
Candidates registered for their Ph.D. programme before 11
July 2009 may also be eligible for exemption provided they satisfy the
prescribed UGC conditions.

Ph.D. degree must have been awarded through the regular mode.
- The
thesis should have been evaluated by at least two external examiners.
- An
open viva voce examination should have been conducted.
- The
candidate should have published at least two research papers from the
Ph.D. work, including one in a refereed journal.
- The
candidate should have presented at least two papers based on the Ph.D.
work at conferences or seminars sponsored or supported by UGC, ICSSR, CSIR
or similar agencies.
- The
fulfillment of these conditions should be certified by the Registrar or
Dean (Academic Affairs) of the concerned university.
Option B
Candidates possessing a Ph.D. degree from a foreign
university or institution ranked among the Top 500 Universities by any
of the following international ranking agencies are also eligible:

Symonds (QS)
- The Times
Higher Education (THE)
- Academic
Ranking of World Universities (ARWU)
Relaxation in Availability
The notification further states that if candidates
fulfilling the essential qualifications relating to NET or Ph.D. exemption are
not available, candidates possessing the prescribed Master's Degree
qualification may also be considered for appointment in accordance with
